FAQ regarding rescheduling the 2025 Race to Saturday 6th September

The Six Foot Track Marathon, initially set for Saturday, 8th March 2025, was cancelled due to the forecast of heavy rain and the potential for vehicle damage to the track.

After discussions with key partners and supporters, the committee has decided to reschedule the race to Saturday, 6th September 2025. Additionally, a substantially modified approach to aid stations on the course will be adopted to mitigate potential future cancellations.

This page covers all the details associated with this rescheduling, please take the time to read through all items carefully and if then still have any questions please email us at info@sixfoot.com

Confirmed entrants at time of cancellation of original race date

This section covers the options available to those runners who had a confirmed entry at the time of the cancellation announcement (Thursday 6th March at 6:15pm). There are three options available for these runners as detailed below. To effectively collect and manage the decisions required for over 1000 runners through email will require significant time and no doubt create errors and so we have updated Race Roster for you to be able to record your decision. We require all entrants to register their decision as below by 5pm, Friday 4th  April. For any runners who have not registered their decision by then, we will assume they are going to maintain their registration and run in September.

Option 1 : Run in September 2025

Your 2025 entry will be automatically transferred to the rescheduled race on 6th September 2025 at no additional cost. Any merchandise orders will remain unchanged. Your existing qualifier used for the 8th March race registration will still be valid, no need for additional qualifying.

Next step - Once we have confirmed the full field of entrants for September we will follow up with more details closer to race day, the same process we had in leading up to March

Option 2 : Defer to the 2026 Race

You can choose to use your 2025 entry for the 2026 race instead. There will be no additional entry fee when registering for the 2026 event. You will need to have a valid qualifier from an extended date range (see below for more detail). If you chose this option any merchandise orders you placed with your 2025 registration will be refunded.

Next step - Once all 2025 entrants have confirmed their decision we will send you an email confirmation regarding your 2026 deferral. Later this year we will then provide you with updates as to how to register when entries open for 2026.

Option 3 : Cancel your entry for a refund

A cancellation fee of $40 will apply to cover costs incurred and already paid due to the cancellation that cannot be reused for the September race (e.g. initial medical and traffic expenses...etc), this means you will get a refund against the credit card used for your registartion of $180. Choosing this option means you will not be able to run in the rescheduled event in September or have a guaranteed entry for the 2026 event (unless eligible through preferred entry criteria). Any merchandise orders will also be refunded.

Next step - Once you have confirmed this decision we will process all refund requests, this is a manual process and so may take a little time to complete, we will process the refunds in the order of when runners registered their decision.

Process for additional entries for the Saturday 6th September 2025 Race

At the end of the decision process as above for the 2025 confirmed entrants the race committee will then assess the number of confirmed entrants for the September event. We will then proceed with a "roll down" process using the steps below for available spots until we have a full field.

Step 1 : Deferred 2025 entrants

Runners who previously deferred their 2025 entry to 2026 before the cancellation of the 8th March race will be offered the option to reinstate their 2025 entry to the September race at no charge. This however will remove your right for a 2026 deferred entry. If you don’t take up this option, if offered, you will still have a deferred 2026 entry. Your existing qualifier used for the 8th March race registration will still be valid, no need for additional qualifying.

Step 2 : Cancelled 2025 entrants

Runners who previously cancelled their 2025 entry before the cancellation of the 8th March race will be offered the option to reinstate their 2025 entry to the September race through paying the additional fee equivalent to the refunded amount from their cancellation. Your existing qualifier used for the 8th March race registration will still be valid, no need for additional qualifying.

Step 3 : Unsuccessful 2025 Lottery registrations

Runners who were unsuccessful in the 2025 Lottery will be offered an entry spot to register and pay for the September 2025 race. This may again be through a lottery draw depending upon remaining available spots at that point in time. When registering you will need to provide a valid qualifier from our published 2025 list

Step 4 : New Lottery for September

If there are still spots available we will set up a new lottery for the remaining spots available. When registering you will need to provide a valid qualifier from our published 2025 list.

Key Details for Saturday 6th September 2025 Race

Aid stations and mandatory gear

The major change in approach for the race on Saturday 6th September is associated with a significant reduction in aid stations that will be provided and as part of this will be changes to mandatory gear associated with runners carrying enough fluids. This change is to mitigate the amount of race day vehicles on course and any potential damage to the track in the event of poor weather.

2025 Merchandise

Entrants who pre-ordered merchandise for the March race will be able to collect this order at registartion pick up on Friday the 5th September. New entrants through the roll down process will be able to pre-order merchandise as part of their entry. There will be additional stock available for purchase on race weekend and also available through the website to be mailed out.

Entry cancellation

Confirmed entrants for the rescheduled September 2025 race will not be able to defer this entry to the 2026 race. Otherwise the current cancellation policy on the website will be updated with respective dates for September.

Wave allocations

Given we expect new runners in the Spetember Race through the roll down process there will be a new wave allocation and runners will have the opportunity to udpate their submitted qualifier for a potential new wave allocation.

In general all other key aspects of the race organisation such as registration pick up, buses, wave allocations will remain unchanged.

Plans for 2026 Race

At this point the race committee is planning on conducting the 2026 race in March but will not confirm this date until after the completion of the September 2025 race and post race review. There is a chance, based upon this post race review of the rescheduled September race, the associated revised approach as well as assessment of average weather conditions that the 2026 Six Foot Track Marathon and subsequent years may have a different place in the calendar to ensure the long term future of this event and to mitigate as much as possible any potential future race cancellations.

2026 Qualifying Requirement Guidance

To help provide guidance for runners planning on entering 2026 the eligible time window for qualifiers will be extended to 2 years from planned race date, ie assuming the 2026 race is conducted in March as stated above runners will be able to use a time/event starting from the 2024 Six Foot Track Marathon (9th March 2024).
